Two Meissen porcelain figures of musicians, c.1755, the decoration probably later, each playing a lute, seated on a tree-stump with a dog at their feet, on rococo scrolloulded mound bases applied with flowers and foliage, 19.6cm and 20cm high (2)Provenance: Works of Art from the Schroder Collection. The figure with the yellow coat:The tip of the lute is lacking, and there is some associated chipping to the tips of two of his left fingers and thumb. One of the feathers in his hat is lacking and there is some chipping to the brim and ribbons. The tip of the dog’s right ear is lacking, and there is some slight chipping to the corner of his jacket nearby. There is chipping to the branches of the tree-stump, and some very slight (and minor) chipping to the flowers and foliage. The figure with a puce coat:The tip of the lute is lacking. One of the feathers in his cap is lacking. The tip of the dog’s right ear is lacking. There are some very small chips to the ribbons, flowers and foliage, and some of these have been repaired. There is chipping to the branches of the tree-stump, and some of these have been retouched to make them less noticeable.
