Here is a picture of life in an 18th-century village in Germany. We have a woman churning, a man sowing seeds, and a woman beating flax, all part of a set made at the Limbach porcelain factory, one of the Thuringian porcelain establishments. (Thuringia had nine porcelain factories: Gera, Gotha, Grossbreitenbach, Ilmenau, Kloster (or Closter)-Veilsdorf ), Limbach, Rauenstein, Wallendorf and Volkstedt.) These figures stand five and a quarter inches tall, all in perfect shape with no damage. They came over from Germany after WWII with a family that moved to Ohio with their collection of antique porcelain. The Limbach factory was founded in 1772 by Ludwig Greiner. It is very unusual to find a set of three Limbach figures that have remained together for over 200 years, and I’m not going to separate them.
