A pair of Transitional period wucai rouleau vases, 17th century, China, H 19 cm, Purchased from Aronson Antiques (Amsterdam) in the mid 1980's, in the same family since then. Each depicting an official with his servant in a garden, the official is pointing to the sun, symbolizing “Zhi Ri Gao Sheng” (official promotion is nearby). The base is unglazed an unmarked. One rim chip along the top. A few glaze imperfections (manufacturing flaws). No hairlines or restoration.
