TWO TRIBAL SILVER AND METAL NECKLACES, ONE WITH AFGHAN COINS, c.1950sAfghanistan, mid-20th century. The first a black textile string strung with a row of small metal beads and longer zoomorphic shaped beads, hanging from the last, are infinite-shaped rings that support an Afghan 25 pul coin, 1952-1955. The second a multi-strand rope strung with a row of long silver beads with rhomboid sheets, the three central beads inset with red and blue glass, followed by infinite-shaped rings ending in silver sheet roundels, creating a jingling sound as the wearer moves.Condition: Good condition with expected traces of use and wear, minor nicks and surface scratches. Provenance: Romy Rey Collection, London. Romy Rey (1938-2020) was born in Zurich, Switzerland, studied in Paris and Geneva, and settled in London in the 1960s. She shared her life with the artist Brian Davies (1942-2014), in London and in Southern France. Romy was an avid traveler and dedicated collector of tribal art.
