因砚素被认为笔耕，故有笔耕砚田之讲，本品墨池作井田状，想必也是表达此意。刺眼端石雕就，呈棕褐色，砚堂平缓，作淌池式，砚唇微翘。砚背覆手内刻铭文“井田砚”，镌文“石田无税，古井不波。优哉游哉，乐此祥和。文田”。砚滴有石眼，巧雕纹饰。
