3rd century AD. A silver ring comprising a D-section hoop with flared shoulders, ellipsoid plaque with inset agate cloison, intaglio robed figure with a feather seated in a chair. Cf. Ruseva-Slokoska, L. Roman Jewellery, Sofia, 1991, item 244. 14.75 grams, 26mm overall, 18.1mm internal diameter (approximate size British P 1/2, USA 7 3/4, Europe 16.86, Japan 16"). (1"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the late 1960s-early 1970s. Dr Bonewitz notes: 'The deep patination of the stone attests to its extreme age.' Fine condition.
