11th century AD. A bronze stirrup mount of Williams's Class A Type 7 with pierced lateral scrolls, median florid pillar, ledge to the reverse. Cf. Williams, D. Late Saxon Stirrup-Strap Mounts, York, 1997, plate 31 (125"). 18 grams, 49mm (2"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the 1970s. Very fine condition.
