A BLUE AND WHITE LOTUS BOX AND COVER, QING
China, 19th century. Painted with lotus, peonies and other flowers amid intricate scrolls of leaves and vines, bands of ruyi to the rims, the base with a six character Qianlong seal mark, heavily potted and with an unctuous, thick glaze.

Provenance: From the collection of the late Reverend Margaret Johnston (deceased 2018). Old collector’s label to base inscribed ‘Sotheby’s 2/4/82 Cheng Lung 1736-95’ and ‘19th Century, £ 200’.
Condition: Fine condition with some wear and traces of use, tiny chip to inner lip of base, few firing flaws and tiny open bubbles, minor surface scratches, mostly to the inside.
