A BODHISATTVA ON A THRONE, MING DYNASTY
China, late 16th – mid-17th century. Ink and color on silk. The Bodhisattva, probably Akasagarbha, is portrayed seated on a sumptuous throne in front of a circular halo, flanked by four dragons, wearing long flowing and embroidered robes and an enameled gold crown, holding a scepter.
Provenance: From a French estate. Old collector inventory number “C.337” to lower left.
Condition: Laid down on board. Darkened, some soiling, tears and creases, minor losses, abrasions. Some touch-ups. Old frame with losses to paint and traces of use.
