A Nuremberg silver nesting goblet Silver; gold-plated. Silver-gilt drinking chalice formed from two identical cups stacked on top of each other. Each with a round base, narrow baluster-form shaft and three scrolls beneath slightly waisted gadrooned cuppas issuing from foliate lower sections. Decorated with embossed scrolls and garlands of fruit. Brands: BZ Nuremberg around 1609 - 29, MZ Hans Reiff (1609 - 33, GNM No. BZ13, 697). The cupola of one half with MZ Christoph Schell (1593 - 1621, GNM No. 787), tremolier engravings. H 31 cm, total weight 444 g. Marks of Hans Reiff, the cuppa of one goblet with marks of Christoph Schell, around 1609 – 29. Alongside the corresponding décor and identical assay marks, the fact that these goblets fit perfectly on top of each other is a strong indication that the two goldsmiths Reiff and Schell shared the work on this particular commission. Literature Two giant goblets by Hans Reiff found their way to Sweden, where they were then sent by Queen Christine as a gift to the Russian Tzar's court in 1647. Zwei identische, ineinandergesteckte Pokale. Auf rundem Fuß mit Zungendekor der schlanke Balusterschaft mit drei Volutenspangen. Die gebuckelte, leicht eingeschnürte Kuppa über einem Korb aus Blattzierwerk; die Wandung mit flach getriebenem Schweifwerk und Fruchtgebinden. Das exakte Ineinanderpassen der Hälften und der korrespondierende Dekor sprechen dafür, dass die beiden beteiligten Meister sich die Arbeit an diesem Auftrag geteilt haben. Provenienz Britische Privatsammlung Literatur Zwei Riesenpokale Hans Reiffs fanden den Weg nach Schweden und wurden von Königin Christine 1647 als Geschenk an den Zarenhof gesandt.
