Limited to 165 copies, "The Journal of Dr. John Morgan of Philadelphia, from the city of Rome to the city of London 1764, together with a Fragment of a Journal written at Rome, 1764 and a Biographical Sketch" (J.B. Lippincott, Printed for Private Circulation 1907); original cloth boards with craft paper cover added. A slip reading "With the compliments of - (?) Morgan" applied inside the front cover, next to a signed "Edward Hopkinson, January 13, 1908". John Morgan, "founder of Public Medical Instruction in America," was co-founder of the Medical College at the University of Pennsylvania, the first medical school in Colonial America; and he served as the second "Chief physician & director general" of the Continental Army (an early name for the Surgeon General of the United States Army). He also founded the American Philosophical Society in 1766 in Philadelphia. Also, Dr. Morgan married the daughter of Thomas Hopkinson / sister of Francis Hopkinson.
