A Japanese Inscribed Wooden Paulownia Cake Tray in Fitted Box, Signed, 1950s. Kiri Shiho Bon (paulownia square cake tray) is inscribed on the lid of the Tomobako wooden box. It was made to pay a tribute to the memory of the artist HASHIMOTO Kansetsu (1883 – 1945), which is also inscribed on the lid. Kansetsu’s red seals on the tray. Sealed and signed SHISHO. The box 24 x 24cm. Mid 20th Century, 1950s.
Provenance: from the collection of the late Brian Page (1938-2018), the well-known Oriental art and antiques dealer from Brighton.
