A Chinese Straits Silver Hinged Pierced-Work Container 19th Century, H.G.Beasley Collection. This container, or box, has a hinged top that has a padded liner and was possibly used to keep either a pair of scissors or a set of hairpins in. It is completely covered with pierced-work decoration comprising scrolling floral designs. Length 11.25cm. The hinged top is missing its clasp.
Provenance: from the well-known H. G. Beasley Collection. Harry Geoffrey Beasely assembled his collection between 1895 & 1939. Following his death in 1939 the collection was widely dispersed with many pieces going to the British Museum, such was the quality of the collection.
Also from the collection of the late Brian Page (1938-2018), the well-known Oriental art and antiques dealer from Brighton.
