A rare exceptionally large Rajasthani ivory figure of Krishna as a boy. 19th century Standing on a double lotus base with hands held forward, the naked body adorned with silver anklets, the piercing of the ears lined with gold, the hair and the braid at the back painted black, remains of red pigment to the lips, fingers and toe nails. The seven-year-old Krishna is worshipped as Shri Nathji by the members of the Vaishnava sect in Rajasthan and Gujarat, the main temple situated at Nathadwara. According to season and seasonal festivals the figure is dressed and adorned in different robes. Most probably also this figure was donned regularily with clothing and jewellery. Stehend auf einem doppeltem Lotossockel, unbekleidet bis auf silberne Reifen und Ketten an den Fesseln und kleinen goldgefassten Löchern an den Ohren. Die Hände sind vor der Brust gehalten. Die Haare auf dem Kopf und der lange Zopf am Rücken schwarz, die Augen schwarz umrandet, an den Lippen, Finger und Fußnägeln Reste roter Farbe. Der siebenjährige Krishna wird in der Vaishnava-Sekte in Rajasthan und Gujarat als Shri Nathji verehrt. Der Haupttempel des Shri Nathji ist in Nathadwara. Regelmäßig zu Festen und Jahreszeiten wird er neu eingekleidet. So wird auch diese Figur mit Gewändern und Geschmeide geschmückt worden sein.
