A Nepalese grey stone stele of Krishna Venugopala, carved in openwork. 17th century Krishna in the form of Venugopala, the cowherd, grasping a flute and standing in his distinctive pose on a lotus base, backed by a halo and aureole, flanked by two dancing gopis and with Garuda at his feet. Remains of red pigments. Wooden base. Height 26 cm Provenance Private collection, Aachen, Germany, acquired at Lempertz, Cologne, 31.5/1.6.1988, lot 653, and thence by descent. With old incoice. Durchbrochen gearbeitetes Relief mit Krishna als göttlicher Hirte mit überkreuzten Beinen auf einem Lotos unter einer Gloriole stehend, die Flöte in den Händen zum Spiel erhoben, begleitet von zwei tanzenden Gopis zu seinen Seiten und Garuda zu seinen Füßen. Reste roter Kultfarbe. Holzsockel. H 26 cm Provenienz Privatsammlung, Aachen, erworben bei Lempertz, Köln, 31.5/1.6.1988, Lot 653, seitdem in Familienbesitz. Alte Rechnung vorhanden.
