A Japanese gilt and enameled bronze bowl dating from the Late Meiji period with an inscribed box. The enameled exterior of the bowl has four white cranes holding leaves on a blue ground. It has a rim border of ruyi clouds and a base border of swirls. The interior is gilt. Dimensions: 2 5/8 inches tall X 7 1/4 inches wide, 6.7 cm X 18.4 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: The bottom of the bowl has a star crack, several dents, and two areas of loss to the enamel. The enameled walls of the bowl have some dents, small areas of firing defects, and hairlines. The interior of the bowl has staining and spotting. Provenance: From a Connecticut gentleman's collection.
