Patinated bronze. A life-sized bust of the famous general with his chin beard and tousled hair, his torso unclothed. Signed "Hp. Le Roy" at the bottom right. A mounting hole on the underside to attach it to a pedestal. Height 50 cm. General Belisarius (circa 500 - 565) was a Byzantine general and commander under Justinian I. Hippolyte Le Roy was a Belgian sculptor, working in Ghent in Belgium. In 1900, he won the silver medal for the fine arts at the Exposition Universelle in Paris.Condition: I - II
