Rectangular wooden cabinet on four ball feet of turned bone. The exterior covered with fine, gold-embossed leather, brass mounts with traces of fire gilding. At top a movable iron handle with traces of gilding. Flap with small gilt lock, the key missing. The inside of the flap with inlaid plate of slate from Solnhofen (cracked), the frame with fine marquetry inlays of various fruit woods, surrounded by a frieze of weapons and musical instruments. Slight worming at top. The interior with seven small drawers around a central, lockable door. Key included. The front sides of the drawers applied with engraved and blackened bone. The door depicting two musicians, the drawers adorned with various instruments. Original gilt brass pommels. Dimensions 11 x 12 x 9.5 cm.A similar miniature cabinet, probably from the same workshop, is housed in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum in New York.Condition: II -
