The free-standing, severely geometric corpus in solid, partly carved walnut. Standing on four turned baluster legs with a crossbar, the straight frame with three drawers and two panelled drawers in front of large compartments. Imposing, heavy table top. The draw pulls also in walnut. Old labels pasted on the underside with reference to Mr Friedländer and a Berlin moving company. An exceptional, early piece of library furniture with a first-rate provenance. Dimensions 84 x 241 x 64 cm.Provenance: From the private estate of Max Jacob Friedländer, Berlin, thereafter owned by the actor Rudolf Platte, also Berlin. Galerie Rudolf Springer, Berlin. Subsequently in the Berlin art trade. Part of a private German collection since the 1980s.Condition: IICondition Report:Showing traces of age and use. Visible worming, not active. The table top partially restored. Delightful original patination.
