Round copper plate, with fine enamelled painting, partially gilt. Polychrome enamel with the tragic depiction (according to Ovid's Metamorphoses) of the avid hunter Cephalus fatally wounding his jealous wife Procris with a javelin as a result of a misunderstanding. His hunting hound Laelaps at his side. The back monogrammed "I.L.", presumably for Jacques II Laudin (1665 - 1729). Signs of age. Partially retouched. Knocked at the back.
