Two heavy stirrups of wrought iron with oval treads reinforced at the edges. The slightly conical side pieces with deeply chiselled and pierced dragon heads and rectangular strap lugs. The exterior and the treads profusely decorated with scrolling leaves and dragons damascened in gold. On the tops of the lugs gold-damascened Chinese inscription "Cang Long" and "Xun Zi", respectively (Blue Dragon and his "foster" son). The bottom of the treads engraved with inscription "Imperial Workshops (made in the) Year of Xin si ( 造办处 辛巳年 )" within a rectangle. Height of either stirrup 16.5 cm."Xin si ( 辛巳 )" is a Chinese sexagenary cycle. These stirrups were therefore made in 1761, 1821 or 1881.Condition: II
