The lid made of white marble with a circular base, diameter 9.3 cm. The slightly protruding, naturalistic depiction of a vine leaf with veins and stalk in relief enclosing the elongated oval body at the top and sides. A contoured knob, re-affixed with adhesive, extending from the end of the leaf. Below the leaf at the front right, presumably the artist's signature ANTIMACHOU, made by Antimacho. The two-line inscription STYNOMO / POSTIDONI at the rear edge, below the knob. A remarkable workpiece by a Greek marble sculptor, dating from the 4th century B.C. An antique knock and small defect at the front left. Exquisite patina. Rare.
