A FAMILLE ROSE PORCELAIN CISTERN WITH COVER AND BASIN China, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). The flat-backed cistern of pear shape with a lobbed basin and domed cover, surmounted by a figural knob depicting a Buddhist lion painted in iron red. The body is decorated with enameled panels divided by gilt lines. The main panel depicting a vase filled with flowers, flanked by two further panels with floral and faunal ornaments. Condition: Very good condition with some wear to the gilt, firing flaws and imperfections, minor chips and one longer breakage to the inside rim. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. Istvan Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
