AN INDUS VALLEY STYLE STONE FIGURE OF A FERTILITY GODDESS 20th century. A work of a sculptor, reminiscent of the famous Indus Valley human figurines (3300 BCE to 1300 BCE). Of figural shape carved from a mottled ochre stone, depicting a standing fertility goddess, with broad hips, slender waist and holding hands behind the back, the prominent breasts and wide shoulders flank the sides of a set of necklaces. Condition: Very good condition with natural faults to the stone. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. Istvan Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
