Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 400 to 600 CE. A fabulous hand-built pottery vessel depicting a dignified figure with a bulbous body and cylindrical head topped by a circular opening that serves as the spout. The ancient visage presents naturalistic features such as heavy-lidded, almond-shaped eyes beneath a heavy brow, a large nose, and a closed mouth, all flanked by a pair of sizeable ears and topped with a helmet-like headdress. Beige-painted details adorn the body and spout of the vessel, adding vertical striations to the figure's headdress, as well as a pectoral comprised of elongated triangles below the head.
