23,2 x 29,7 cm Condition Style of Wen Jia (1501-1583), China, ca. 17th ct., River Landscape in Snow. Hanging scroll, ink and light colours on silk, Signature by the artist: "River landscape in evening snow. Maoyuan Wen Jia". One seal: "Wen Jia zhi yin". One collector's seal in the lower left. One collector's seal on the mounting above: "Yanluo yunhe". Wen Jia was the second son of Wen Zhengming (1470-1559) and continued the family tradition of scholarly landscape painting. His paintings are extremely fine and sophisticated. He was also an art connoisseur and wrote many inscriptions on paintings. This is a very fine and detailed work, but probably not by him. There are two individuals on records with the style name 'Yanluo': Wang Ye (Qing dynasty), a landscape painter from Changzhou (Suzhou), and Gao Shucheng (around 1780), a painter of landscapes and flowers from Renhe (Hangzhou).-Acquired at Rong Bao Zhai Ronxing Culture Art, Beijing, 8th Nov 1995-Water damage, minor restorations
