35 x 242 cm Condition Style of Wen Zhenheng (1585-1645), China, ca. 18th ct., River Landscape in Winter. Handscroll, ink on satin. Signature at the end of the scroll: "Picture of the River in Winter. Painted in autumn of the wuchen year of the Chongzhen period (1628), Wen Zhenheng". Two seals: "Qimei", "Mujisheng". Four collectors' seals: "pu lun shending", "Wanyan yesun zhencang", "Pan shi Deyu zhenshang", "Yanhongge zhuren zhang". Colophone by Wang Zhe, dated 1853. Three seals of him: "Mushisheng", "Wang Zhe zhi yin" etc. Wen Zhenheng, style names Qimei and Mujisheng, was a scholar, official, calligrapher, and painter from Suzhou. Under the Ming dynasty, he served at the Wuyingdian at court. Aisin Gioro Pu Lun (1874-1927), style name Yi'an, called the studio that was housing his collection 'Yanhongge'. He was a prince of the fourth rank and a higher official during the Xuantong period. In 1904, he visited the St. Louis World's Fair in Louisiana, USA.
