103,2 x 29,5 cm Condition Style of Yuan Jiang (ca. 1671-after 1746), China, ca. 19th century, Riding on a Mule in a Winter Landscape. Hanging scroll, ink and colours on paper. Signature: "Painted by Yuan Jiang from Hanshang (Yangzhou)." Two seals: "Seal of Yuan Jiang" (Yuan Jiang zhi yin), "Wentao". Yuan Jiang, style name Wentao, was a court painter during the Yongzheng period (1723-1735). He was famous for his monumental landscape paintings in the tradition of the Song dynasty and his meticulous rendition of architecture (jiehua).
