90 x 37,5 cm Condition Qian Du (1764-1844), China, 19th ct., Landscape with Pavilion at the Water in the Autumn. Framed under glass, ink and light colours on paper. Poetic inscription and signature by the artist: "In the style of Huanghe shanqiao (Wang Meng, 1308-1385), Qian Du". One seal of the artist: "Shumei". Qian Du, style name Shumei, was from a rich family in Hangzhou. After a short official position in Beijing, he returned to Hangzhou around 1808. There, he devoted himself to painting and later made his living by selling his works. The fussy texture of the rocks in this painting clearly shows the style of the Yuan literati painter Wang Meng.-Acquired at Klefisch, Cologne, 13th June 1989, auction 39, no. 581-Minor restorations, very minor damage due to age
