81,5 x 40 cm Condition Ren Xun (1835-1893), Ni Tian (1855-1919), Lu Hui (1851-1920), Lady with Two Boys Playing. Hanging scroll, ink and colours on silk, late 19th century. Collaboration of three artists. Each of them wrote an inscription with his signature and seals: 1) "Mogeng Ni Tian from Hangshang painted the lady in the Biyue'an-Study". Two seals: "Mogeng", "Ni Tian zhi yin" 2) "Fuchang Ren Xun painted the green bamboo." One seal: "Ren Xun". 3) "Lianfu added the boys and the landscape". Two seals: "Wujiang Lu Hui", "Lianfu hua yin". Ni Tian, style name Mogeng, was a painter of figures, especially of beautiful ladies, from Yangzhou. In 1890, he went to Shanghai where he sold paintings near the Yu Garden. There he met Ren Xun and Lu Hui. Ren Xun, style name Fuchang, was also a figure painter, but excelled in flower painting. Here he painted the bamboo in the fine gongbi style, for which he was noted. Lu Hui, style name Lianfu, was an art connoisseur and painter, particularly of flowers.-Acquired at Nagel, Stuttgart, 19th May 1999, auction 16A, no. 2499-Very minor damage due to age
