131,7 x 30,3 cm Condition Ren Xiong (1820-1857), China, 19th ct., Rooster under Mallows. Hanging scroll, ink and colours on paper. Poetic inscription by the artist with a signature: "Weichang". One seal: "Private seal of Ren Xiong" (Ren Xiong siyin). One collector's seal: "Yin lu zhencang". Ren Xiong, style name Weichang, was an important painter of figures and flowers and birds from Xiaoshan in Zhejiang. Later, he was active in the provincial capital Hangzhou where he lived for three years with the art collector Zhou Xian (1820-1875).-Acquired at Lempertz, Cologne, 7th June 1996, auction 732, no. 294-Minor restorations
