H. 30 cm Condition A VERY RARE AND IMPORTANT BLUE AND WHITE 'PEACOCK' JAR, China, Yuan dynasty. This 'guan' jar is heavily potted, with a low inward-tapering neck and a large mouth opening. The bold design shows a peacock trailing its tail feathers and turning its head, looking back to its mate. They are painted among a free display of peonies, leaves, lotus, and other flowering plants. The neck is ornamented with a band of floral scrolls. Height: 30 cm, Weight: 5.08 kg. A similar jar is now in the British Museum, illustrated in: Harrison-Hall, Jessica: Catalogue of Late Yuan and Ming Ceramics in the British Museum, London, BMP, 2001, 1:33.-Property from an Austrian private collection, acquired in Indonesia in the 1990s-Fixed crack from the mouth to the base
