H. 32 cm Condition A BLUE AND WHITE JAR WITH DUCKS IN A LOTUS POUND, China, Jiajing period. The so-called 'manchi jiao' pattern (pond of beauty), named after a poem by Ke Jiusi (1290-1343), was used primarily on robes of palace ladies starting in the Southern Song dynasty but was increasingly used on blue and white porcelain from the Yuan dynasty onwards. A local gazetteer from the Jiajing period mentions the pattern in an imperial order of porcelain for the Jingdezhen kiln.-Provenance: French private collection, bought from Sotheby's London, 16.5.2012-A similar jar with cover from the Rogers found is on display in the Metropolitan Museum od Art in New York (Inv.Nr.18.56.8a,b)-Few fine firing cracks or short hairlines, glaze frits or small chips
