A Regency gilt decorated black lacquer sarcophagus shaped work box decorated with fields of leaves within scrolling borders, blue painted interior, on four brass lion paw feet height 17 cm., width 32 cm., depth 23 cm. Condition: The box has possibly been exposed to heat which has caused the varnish to bubble. Underneath the varnish decoration looks bright. Some wear to corners and edges. Two feet have been fixed with replacement screws. Marks and bloom to lid. Restoration required. Originally would have had a lift out work tray
