Dimensions: 19-1/2" H x 6-3/8" W (EACH) Majestic, Rare, Chinese 17th C. Qing Dynasty Period, Pair of Qianlong Dragon lamp in Zitan wood and cloisonne stands. In rectangular tall frame, frame carved Zitan hardwood with auspicious pattern, enclosed the four sides clear glass panels with attractive gilt in five claws imperial dragon soaring amidst flames and vapors, with face and upper right appendage outstretched toward the heavens. Vigorous dragons chasing flaming pearl amidst flames against gilt scrolling clouds diaper. The backdrop depicts swirling wind and fire painted atop a beautiful glass. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-Shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The foot rim supported by GU vase shaped cloisonne gilt bronze post upon square prominent Zitan hardwood foot base. The gilt bronze Gu vase decorated in cloisonne works with colorful floral and key fret motifs aver the pale-turquoise ground, adorned with taotie mask and scrolling tendril, flowers blooms in vivid tones color. Zitan is an extremely dense wood which sinks in water. It is a member of the rosewood family and is botanically classified in the Pterocarpus genus. The lumber is blackish-purple in hue, and its fibers are loaded with deep red pigments which have been used for dye throughout the ages. The entirety is encased in amazing relief carving which gives this box a captivating appearance. Elegancy come with tall Zitan hardwood stand carved with scrolling ruyi and Auspicious motif.
