A Chinese red-ground embroidered panel of a phoenix and a dragon dating from the 19th century. The embroidery features gold thread. The phoenix and dragon chasing a flaming pearl while flanking a large double happiness character. They are surrounded by bats and other auspicious symbols. The whole embroidery has a border of double happiness characters and floral and vine tracery. It is mounted on a board. Dimensions are: 52 1/2 inches tall X 27 1/4 inches wide, 133.4 cm X 69.2 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: There are areas of worm damage and holes throughout. There is one area of repair. Loose threads and staining are present throughout. The edges have significant damage and wear, especially the top edge. A reminder that all lots are sold as-is.
