盖盒为白玉质，质地精良，温润雅致，光气一流。器物为圆雕挖空器皿件，整体造型为一憩坐鹌鹑，通体雕琢成盒状，上下子母口紧密扣合。鹌鹑身形饱满丰腴，圆眼炯炯有神，尖嘴微凸，鸟身翎毛、翅膀层迭有序、繁而不乱，雕工精巧细腻，神态机敏祥和、惟妙惟肖。盖盒内部挖膛细致光洁，胎壁较薄，体现了高超的工艺技巧。鹌鹑寓意平安，是宫廷常用的图案、造型。
