A personal archive pertaining to the private secretary of Prince Bernhard, Mostly 1937-1946, Netherlands, The present lot consists of an exceptional archive of Joan Karel Hendrik de Roo van Alderwerelt (1897-1987), the aide-de-camp to Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands (1911-2004), during the period of 1937 until 1946. Besides being the private secretary of the Dutch prince, he subsequently became a military attaché at the embassies in the United Kingdom and in the Federal Republic of Germany. J.K.H. de Roo van Alderwerelt came from a patrician family, which is mentioned in ‘Het Blauwe Boekje’. Because of his adjutantship to Prince Bernhard, the resulting documentation, and its careful preservation by the family of the present owner, the archive consists of, among other things, previously unpublished visual documentation of de Roo van Alderwerelt and Prince Bernhard, also newspaper clippings and military documentation during the Second World War. A first part of these historical documents was sold during the General Art and Antiques Auction in these rooms in June 2019, lot 4053.
