A CLOISONNE ENAMEL 'EIGHT HORSES OF MUWANG' BOWL, QING DYNASTY China, 19^th century. The steep rounded sides rising from a splayed foot to a flaring rim, the interior enameled with four horses leaping through crashing waves backed by ruyi shaped clouds, the center with a leaping carp. The exterior mirroring the same motif.

Inscriptions: A bronze plaque to the base, incised 'Fang Ming' (in Ming style).

Provenance: UK trade.
Condition: Fine condition with extensive wear, mostly to the inside, and minor losses to the enamels, small nicks, and light scratches.

Expert's note: The plaque on the base of this lot depicts a Mandarin's hat with finial and peacock feather, the most obvious sign of official rank at the Qing court, indicating that this bowl may have been intended as a gift to an official during the later Qing dynasty. Pierre Uldry notes that “The Kangxi works of “Ming style” became synonymous with cloisonné style in general, for significantly, it was again enamel pieces of this type that were copied in the second half of the nineteenth century and to which the revealing, ubiquitous 'Fang Ming' mark was added.”



清代掐絲琺瑯《穆王八駿》碗
中國，十九世紀。口微外撇，圓腹，圈足。碗內壁雲紋地上繪有四匹奔跑的駿馬，碗中央開光繪有一條躍起的紅鯉魚。外璧同樣可見駿馬圖。

款識：碗底可見“彷明”二字。
