A BAPHUON STYLE GRAY SANDSTONE TORSO OF A MALE DEITY, ANGKOR PERIOD
Khmer Empire, 11th century. Finely carved standing in samabhanga, the sculpture sensitively modeled with a belly button, wearing a high-waisted sampot, secured by a belt, the back side with butterfly-shaped element.
Provenance: Old French private collection, acquired during the 1990s. RD Collection Paris, acquired from the above.
Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age. Extensive wear, signs of weathering and erosion, minor losses, encrustations, nicks, scratches, few structural cracks. The wood stand with a natural age crack.
