Soft silky wool and thick pile with a characteristically rough knotting. China, Qing Dynasty

This rare carpet is inscribed in Manchurian script to the top section above a pendent jeweled band and a large blue scaly five-clawed dragon in pursuit of a flaming pearl, all above a stylized wave and cloud band at the base and reserved on an ochre colored ground.
