A pair of Hochst pot à jus or Creme Topfchen, c.1755, red wheel marks, painted in purpurmalerei with landscape vignettes on rococo scroll supports, with scrolling branch handles, 5cm high (2)Provenance: Works of Art from the Schroder Collection.Note: Pots a jus were a French invention, and they were made at the St. Cloud factory from the 1730s onwards. They were used for serving a hot meat-juice consommé or bouillion. In 18th century Germany cups of this type were called Creme Topfchen or Cocots. For a discussion of these, and the slightly different ice-cups (or tasse à glaces), see Ulla Stafford, Custard Cups Pots à Jus, Over Wallop, n.d.Please refer to department for condition report
