A Hochst porcelain group of Der gestörte Schlummer (The Disturbed Slumber), c.1770, blue wheel mark, modelled by J.P. Melchior, with a young girl sleeping, a bowl with teawares and an etui beside her, two boys looking over her, one leaning forward tickling her nose, on a grassy rocky mound base, 14.4cm highProvenance: Works of Art from the Schroder Collection.Note: Another example of this group is illustrated by Horst Reber, “Hochster Porzellan des 18. Jahrhunderts aus Privatbesitz”, Jahrhunderthalle Hoechst December 1984 – January 1985 Exhibition Catalogue, Frankfurt, 1984, p. 116.The principal condition issue is an area of chipping to the edge of the base adjacent to the footrim on the right-hand side of the group – this consists of two chips next to each other (the largest is approximately 11mm. x 11mm). All the remaining issues are very small and minor – these are further slight and minor chips to the edge of the footrim, and small losses to the ribbons. All these small losses are to be expected.
