14th-15th century AD. A large silver annular brooch comprising a circular round-section frame with three lozengiform plates spaced evenly and scar from a fourth, with triangular flat-section pin. Cf. Egan, G. & Pritchard, F. Dress Accessories 1150-1450, London, 2002, item 1327. 7.32 grams, 42mm (1 3/4"). Ex Horton collection; ex TimeLine Auctions, 18 March 2011, lot 781; found Sunderland, UK, 1980s. Fine condition, one plate absent.
