NETSUKE: ENTERTAINER WITH HORSE HEAD HAND PUPPET.
Japan. Edo period. 18th/19th c.

Boxwood. Scratching his head with his left hand, a hand puppet in the shape of a horse's head is striped over his right hand. The well-known shishimai dance is caricatured. Height 8cm. Condition A/B.
