A WHITE JADE SNUFF BOTTLE
China, 1720 – 1830. Well hollowed, of flattened ovoid form with a cylindrical neck resting on an oval recessed foot, carved in low relief on one side with blossoming marigold, the reverse with a neatly incised 32-character poem.
Provenance: English private estate.
Condition: Excellent condition with only minor wear.
Stopper: Coral cabochon with gilt-bronze mounting and old metal spoon
Weight: 65.2 grams
Dimensions: Height including stopper 64 mm. Diameter neck 17 mm and mouth 6 mm.
The stone of pure white with hardly any inclusions or natural flaws. Very nice unctuous finish.
The poem: “In the rain I am watching the growing marigold as they oppose the cold and strive upwards. They are sometimes dark and sometimes light yellow while time pushes their growth forward. After the Feast of the Moon comes the Double Ninth Festival.”
