笔筒依竹形而制，呈上略小、下稍大的筒状。以浅刻、深、浅浮雕和透雕诸法表现通景竹林七贤图。山石迭嶂，溪水曲折，苍松繁茂，竹林盛密。幽静处，四位老者对坐于地，双手抚膝。左侧一人行于溪流上石板桥而长髯及胸者，是七贤中最年长的山涛。在右亭院一人与院后一人似作附耳聆听者。其间另有童子数人，或挥扇煮茶，或溪旁洗砚，或随行，或私语。笔筒布局章法紧凑，纹饰精致细密。雕刻深峻精绝，人物形神俱备，布局疏密得当，层次分明，是竹林七贤竹笔筒中的珍品。2006年香港佳士得春拍《中国宫廷艺术精品》的编号1226清康熙竹镂雕竹林七贤笔筒，编号1226以348万港元成交。
