W 119) and 196 and painter's mark. Laughing boy with drum, riding on a stick, dressed in long white shirt, blue stockings and brown slippers. DESIGN JULIUS KONRAD HENTSCHEL (Cölln 1872-1907 Meissen), design year 1905. Polychrome staffage with detailed rendering of hair. H. 19,5 x l. 13 x w. 8,5 cm. (Catalogue Bröhan Museum, Vol. V, 2 No. 69; Meissen Manuscripts, Special Issue III, Fig. p. 8). Hentschel, a modeller at the manufactory since 1889, is considered one of the definitive Meissen Art Nouveau artists; a highlight of his figural designs is the series of playing children, called "Hentschelkinder" after his name.
