FIGURE GROUP "Europa on the bull", 1st half of 20th century, Thuringian manufactory, probably Volkstedt; marked "N under crown", actually Naples / Italy (expired in 1834), but the mark was used by the manufactories Plaue, Volkstedt and Plaue for export to Italy. Bull striding on oval natural stand and flanked by two young women, carrying "Europa" on his back, holding a garland of flowers. Polychrome staffage with gold accents. Rarer mythological representation of the "Abduction of Europa" in rich detail and independent design, but probably worked in imitation of the model by F. E. Meyer for the Meissen manufactory. H. ca. 31 x L. 32 x w. 19 cm (production-related burn crack behind the right front hoof, some bosomed flowers minimally and inconspicuously bumped).
