94 x 41,3 cm Condition Yu Rong (active around 1765), China, 18th century, Winter Grove with Scholar's Study. Hanging scroll, ink and colours on silk. Signature: "Respectfully painted by Yu Rong." Two seals: "Your subject Rong" (chen Rong), "jingshen (respectfully)". Yu Rong was an official from Jiading. In 1765 he submitted poems and paintings to the throne and thereupon became a court painter. In his landscape paintings he was quite adept in imitating the masters of the Song and Yuan dynasties. This painting with Zhe School elements and an archaic blue and green colouring is typical for court paintings of the eighteenth century.-Minor restorations and very minor damage due to age
